Este artigo defende que o protestantismo português iniciou em 1819. Foram suiços que trouxeram na primeira imigração ao Reino de Portugal, Brasil e Algarves 190 protestantes entre os quase dois mil que vieram em 1819. Marques de Marialva, representante Português na Europa, deu concordância ao desejo da comissão de emigração do cantão de Berna. Na Holanda foram ajudados por um pastor a organizarem uma igreja protestante para Nova Friburgo, mas no Brasil foram pressionados para abjurarem o protestantismo. A vinda de Sauerbronn fortaleceu o primeiro protestantismo formado por cidadãos portugueses.Palavras-chave: Protestantismo; Portugal; Brasil; História; Suiços. Abstract:First approaches to Portuguese-Brazilian Protestantism began in the middle of the 19th century. This article defends that Portuguese Protestantism started in 1819. The first 190 Protestants were brought by the Swiss during the first immigration to the Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil and Algarves. The Potuguese representative in Europe, Marques de Marialva, agreed with the wishes of the Bern emigration commission. A Netherland pastor helped them organize a Protestant church for Nova Friburgo, but once in Brazil were pressured to abhor Protestantism. The arrival of Sauerbronn strengthened the first Protestantism formed by Portuguese citizens.Key words: Protestantism; Portugal; Brazil; History; Swiss.  ER -
