This text aims to deepen the relations between image and sound in cinema through dialectical montage, in order to achieve a more complex image. Starting from the real, from the observation of the landscape and soundscape, sound images and visual images cooperate in the creation of a deeper meaning. This materializes in the sensorial image, an audiovisual image that, through a process of dialectical montage, conveys information about a territory, a community, and a society. The following text seeks to develop concepts linked to this form of montage as an operator, in order to arrive at the definition of the sensorial image: a tool capable of articulating art, history, and politics between the present and the past, whose observations on contemporary society aim to contribute to a critical reflection on the specters of contemporary Portuguese and European history.
