Este texto foi apresentado durante uma sessão do Seminário do Prof. Luís Abreu, « Travessias do anticlericalismo ». Trata-se de aclimatar a questão do pensamento ateu moderno. Sem pretender fazer uma história do ateísmo em Portugal, problematiza-se a questão para futuros trabalhos em volta de Jean Meslier (1664-1729). As primeiras traduções foram imprimidas no fim do séc. XIX. Mas ficam muito fragmentárias, à imagem das pseudo-edições do século anterior. Daí, esboça-se a história do texto do Mémoire, das cópias manuscritas às primeiras impressões.

Abstract
This text, presented during the Seminary “Anticlerical crossings” by Prof. Luís Abreu, deals with the question of atheism in modern thought. Far from reporting its history in Portugal, it attempts to build its problematization in view of future works about Jean Meslier (1664-1729). The first translations of his Mémoire were printed at the end of the nineteenth century, but they are as partial as the pseudo-editions of the previous century. Hence, a historical sketch of the text of Meslier’s Mémoire, from the manuscripts to the first printings.
