Abstract

Ao longo de cerca de duas centenas de páginas, Carolyn Kitch traça em The Girl on the Magazine Cover a genealogia dos estereótipos visuais que caracterizam os media contem - porâneos. Analisando 75 imagens que fizeram capa em publicações norte-americanas tão famosas como, por exemplo, The American Magazine, Collier’s, Good Housekeeping, The Ladies’ Home Journal, Life e The Saturday Evening Post, durante o fim do século XIX e início do século XX (1895-1930), Kitch descobre padrões culturais que marcam a definição de feminilidade, masculinidade, família e da própria essência do «estilo de vida americano».
